About Us
Click on the headings below to discover a bit about our history, our faith, and our Sunday services.
History of St. George’s in Bathurst
St. George’s Church has a long history in Bathurst dating back to 1825 when the “old” St. George’s was erected on Douglas Avenue. In 1864 the cornerstone for the existing site on King Street was laid and the “new” St. George’s was consecrated in 1883. In 1934 a fire destroyed the hall and part of the church. The church was repaired and rededicated later that year, with a newly constructed hall and church office attached.
Our Church Vision
We, the Christian Community of St. George’s Anglican Church, being believers in God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, proclaim the Word of God that all will be transformed and led by the Holy Spirit.
For information about the Anglican tradition and what it means to “be Anglican”, please see the excellent resources on the Diocese website (the Diocese of Fredericton).
What to Expect at Our Sunday Service
Our Sunday service generally follows the liturgy of the Book of Alternative Services, however once a month we follow the Book of Common Prayer. Services include hymns, prayers, and holy communion. Children are always welcome during church and often gather for a special message from the priest or layreader. Our priest inspires us with an engaging sermon that gives us the opportunity to reflect, share, and focus. Services typically last an hour (with some exceptions) and are usually followed by a time of fellowship and community in the church hall, with a warm beverage and a sweet treat!
